Physical development

28-07-2022

Physical development in the EYFS is essential for helping young children build the strength, coordination, and motor skills they need for daily tasks and overall well-being. It focuses on two main areas: Gross motor skills and fine motor skills

Key Aspects of Physical Development in EYFS:

  1. Gross Motor Skills: These involve using larger muscle groups for activities such as running, jumping, climbing, and balancing. By engaging in physical play and outdoor activities, children improve their physical strength, coordination, and spatial awareness.
  2. Fine Motor Skills: These involve smaller movements, such as using hands and fingers for tasks like drawing, cutting, building with blocks, or buttoning clothes. Fine motor development is crucial for writing, self-care, and other dexterity-related activities.

Here at Fairyland, children are encouraged to understand the importance of healthy habits, such as eating nutritious foods, staying active, and practicing good hygiene. They also learn to develop independence in tasks like dressing, feeding, and personal care.

Through structured and unstructured play, children enhance their movement, coordination, and control over their bodies. This helps them engage in sports, games, and other activities that require focus and physical skill.

By promoting both physical strength and coordination, we provide opportunities for children to develop healthy bodies and gain confidence in their physical abilities, laying the foundation for a lifetime of active living and learning.
